5th Annual Gorilla Naming Ceremony “Rwanda’s Mountain Gorillas: “Celebrating the Year of the Gorilla”(June 20th)
June 20th 2009 (Saturday), Rwanda’s Tourism event “Kwita Izina Ceremony” (Gorilla Naming Ceremony) is scheduled to be held hosted by RDB Tourism & Conservation (former ORTPN). The venue is at the Volcanoes National Park. Celebrations will mark the birth of 18 gorillas that will be given names. The theme for this year is “Celebrating the Year of the Gorilla”. Rwanda is set to host Rick DellaRatta – a world renowned jazz pianist and his group “Jazz for peace” at Petit Stadium and the Serena Hotel this weekend. The team will perform live in two concerts as part of the country’s “Amahoro” - Peace Week celebrations that are organised by the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC).
The 5th edition of the International peace marathon, will take place on sunday 24th May 2009 in Kigali capital of Rwanda. The organisation is under the lead of Rwandis Ministery for youth, sports (M.I.J.E.S.P.O.) in cooperation with Soroptimist Europe (S.I.E., Women association) and luxemburgish runners (A.L.M.K). National Olympic comitee of Rwanda (C.O.R.) and Athletic Federation (F.R.A.) are involved, too.
Nearly 50 people gathered at Goleta Beach this weekend for a group bike ride and fundraiser to benefit Project Rwanda、which is to help the Rwandan people work towards a better quality of life through the introduction of bicycles.
