INFORMATION ON VISA APPLICATION

INTRODUCTION

The Embassy authorizes single entry or multiple entries VISA for the maximum duration of 3month. An extension of this period can be applied for at the Immigration Service in Kigali.

In case of those coming from countries where Rwanda don’t have Embassy or Diplomatic Mission they should request for an entry using the website of the General Directorate of Immigration and Emigration: “www.migration.gov.rw”, where they will be given “Entry Facility Letter” indicating that one will obtain a visa on any Official Point of Entry in Rwanda.

Always remember to bring two copies (original and a copy) of each of the documents required.

CATEGORIES OF VISA AND REQUIREMENTS :

1. INDIVIDUAL TOURIST:

a) Visa Fees: 4500 JP Yen (paid in cash: receipt is issued)

b) Validity Period of Visa : 90 days

c) Single or Multiple Entry: Multiple entry

d) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

  • Valid round trip ticket, reservation certificate from any recognized travel agent:
  • Letter from your organization/company (original) or invitation letter from a Rwandan government/private institutions or an individual (original or notarized copy/certified as a true copy) introducing you and stating the purpose of your visit:

e) Work or No Work: Work is not permitted.

f) Visa Extension : Visitor visas may be extended for a further 90 days. Applicants may apply at the Director General’s Client Service Centre in Kigali for an extension. Applications should be made whilst the current visa remains valid. Failure to comply, the penalty fee of 20,000Frw is charged in a period of 06 to 15 days of the delay.

2. FAMILY

a) Eligible Person: A person who wishes to visit a family member or a close relative residing and working in Rwanda: The relatives who may visit are a spouse, parent, brother, sister, child, adopted child, aunt, niece, nephew, cousin, grandparent, grandchild and the ‘step’ equivalent of these

b) Visa Fees: 4500 JP Yen (paid in cash: receipt is issued)

c) Validity Period of Visa : 90 days

d) Single or Multiple Entry: May be up to multiple entry with convincing evidence.

e) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

g) Visa Extension : Family visitor visas may be extended up to a maximum length of stay of nine (09) months. Applicants may apply at the Director General’s Client Service Centre in Kigali for an extension. Applications should be made whilst the current visa remains valid. Failure to comply, the penalty fee of 20,000Frw is charged in a period of 06 to 15 days of the delay.

3. GROUP TOURIST

a) Eligible Person : A person who is traveling as a member of a group of four to ten tourists individually or organized by a tour operator

b) Visa Fees (only Multiple): 8500 JP Yen (paid in cash: receipt is issued)

c) Validity Period of Visa : 90 days

d) Single or Multiple Entry: Multiple entry

e) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

f) Work or No Work: Work is not permitted

g) Visa Extension : Visitor visas may be extended up to a maximum length of stay of 180 days. Applicants shall apply to the Director General for an extension. Applications must be made whilst the current visa remains valid.

Tour operators would apply for an extension for the whole group at the one time.

To avoid penalties, the applicant should apply/renew visa in time before expiration of current visa. Penalty fee is 20,000frw in a period of 06 to 15 days of the delay.

4. CONFERENCE

a) Eligible Person: A person wishing or invited to attend and/or speak at a conference, meeting, workshop or seminar.

b) Visa Fees 2500 JP Yen (for single) and 4500 JP Yen (for multiple): paid in cash: receipt is issue)

c) Validity Period of Visa : 30 days (for both Single and Multiple entry)

d) Single or Multiple Entry: Either Single entry or Multiple entry (depending on applicant’s choice)

e) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

g) Visa Extension: In Special circumstances requirement. To avoid penalties, the applicant should apply/renew visa in time before expiration of current visa. Penalty fee is 20,000frw in a period of 06 to 15 days of the delay.

5. BUSINESS

a) Eligible Person : This class of visa shall be issued to a prospective investor, entrepreneur or trader to visit and explore business opportunities in Rwanda.

b) Visa Fees: 4500 JP Yen (paid in cash: receipt is issued)

c) Validity Period of Visa : 90 days

d) Single or Multiple Entry: Multiple entry

e) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. 6. ITINERANT BUSINESS PERSON

a) Eligible Person : A business person who does not reside in Rwanda but has significant business interests in Rwanda and needs to regularly visit and work in the country.

b) Visa Fees: 7,000 JP Yen (paid in cash: receipt is issued)

c) Validity Period of Visa : Subject to need this visa will be issued for periods between 2 years to 10 years for stays of up to 90 days at one time (visa for this period is only issued by .

d) Single or Multiple Entry: Multiple entry

e) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

  • Letter from your organization/company (original) or invitation letter from a Rwandan government/private institutions or an individual (original or notarized copy/certified as a true copy) introducing you and stating the purpose of your visit: two copies: 2 copies

f) Work or No Work: Work is permitted

g) Visa Extension : Visa may be extended upon application. To avoid penalties, the applicant should apply/renew visa in time before expiration of current visa. Penalty fee is 20,000frw in a period of 06 to 15 days of the delay.

7. DIPLOMATIC

a) Visa Fee (only Multiple): Free of charge

b) Validity of the VISA: For up to two years.

c) Single or Multiple Entry: Multiple entry

d) Application Requirements:

  • Passport: must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.
  • Two Clear Colored Passports size Photos: a recently taken (without glasses, caps and scurf): with clearly seen ears and cheeks from the front view, and white background (the photo should be attached to the application form by use of glue stick. Stapling and clipping the photo to the application form is not advisable.

e) Work or No Work: Work is permitted for the purpose of the visit, which must not exceed 90 days at a time.

f) Visa Extension: No visa extension except new application.

Other Related General Information

Travel Document : An applicant shall be holder of a valid passport or another acceptable travel document. The document must have a validity of at least 6 months on the day of entry in Rwanda.

Health Requirements : A vaccination certificate may be required at the border post. In the event of a major disease outbreak, specific requirements could be set and put to the knowledge of the applicants.

Visa Fees : These are fees for processing of applications. If applications are refused, or withdrawn by the applicant, refunds of fees will not be made.

Financial Requirements: An applicant must have sufficient funds to cover the costs of their stay in Rwanda. Evidence for such funds may be requested online, at the Rwandan foreign mission or at the entry point.

Extension of Visas for Some Classes : Some visa classes may be extended. Details are set out in the Information for Applicants for each class.

Extensions of visas should be applied for whilst initial visas remain valid.

A period of grace also allows a visa holder 5 days after their visa expires to depart the country, without penalty. Persons who depart more than 5 days after the expiry of their visa may be subject to a fine and may be refused a further visa.

Change of Status for Some Classes : An applicant may apply to the Director General for another class of visa whilst they are in Rwanda and whilst their current visa remains valid.

For the Group tourist visa change of status is not permitted. Information for Applicants for the particular visa classes will state if change of status is not allowed.

Verification of Documents : Documents, supporting applications, must be originals or certified as true copies by the issuing authority.

Countries where VISA is exempted

In view of the bilateral agreements, the Nationals of the following Countries may visit Rwanda without visa for a period up to 90 days: USA, Germany, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain, Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong and Burundi.
The visitor’s visa should not be used for employment.
